Cleanings & Exams
Regular examinations, by Dr. Thenus, help detect and prevent health issues before they become serious. Consistent dental check-ups help catch problems when they are small and easier to treat.
Gum disease is an infection of the tissues that surround and support your teeth. Also referred to as periodontal disease, gum disease is caused by the bacteria that is constantly forming on our teeth.
Fluoride & Sealants
Applying a fluoride varnish protects a child's primary (first) teeth from decay. Fluoride is applied twice a year from ages one to six or seven when the child gets their permanent teeth.
Constant grinding wears down the surface of the tooth, exposing the soft dentin beneath the enamel. This is why it's important to protect your teeth while you sleep by wearing a bite guard.
Whitening the teeth is one of the easiest and most noticeable changes that you can make to improve the appearance of your smile. Whitening, or bleaching, is a non-invasive and simple dental treatment that will alter the color of your tooth enamel to make your smile look whiter and brighter.
Fillings are used to restore areas of your tooth affected by decay. At Scappoose Family Dentistry we use composite (tooth-colored) materials to "fill in" the surface of the tooth after all decay has been removed. Silver restorations are also provided for patients who need it in certain cases.
Crowns & Bridges
A crown is a covering that will wrap and protect the entire surface of a tooth, allowing it to look and function just like the original tooth. A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance and is one of the traditional dental methods for replacing missing teeth.
For our patients with anxiety, sedation dentistry may be the answer. We offer both nitrous oxide and oral (conscious) sedation as options for our patients.
Bonding is a procedure where we apply a tooth-colored composite material to a tooth, shape it, allow it to harden and polish it. It can be used in certain situations where a tooth has been damaged or become stained.
Veneers are very thin pieces of durable tooth shaped porcelain that are custom-made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile.
Root Canal Therapy
Root canal therapy is needed when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection. In order to save the tooth, the pulp (nerve and blood supply), bacteria and any decay are removed, and the resulting space is filled with an inert material called gutta percha.
A tooth extraction is the procedure done to remove a tooth that is damaged beyond repair from its socket in the jawbone. Extractions are also done to remove wisdom teeth that may be impacted or create future problems.
Mandibular Tori Removal
Mandibular tori removal is surgery to remove extra, overgrown bone on one or both sides of your jaw. This surgery is needed if you want to have a full, lower denture or partial.
Frenectomy is a simple surgery to remove frenulum (small folds of tissues) in the mouth. Frenulum is a muscular attachment between two tissues. This surgery needs to be done if the frenulum has caused diastema (opening gap between two teeth) and you would like to close the gap, or if you want to start orthodontic treatment.
